# Getting Started

Welcome to the Itheum Protocol Official Docs

In August 2026, the Itheum protocol upgraded to V4, codenamed **Itheum Agenta**. This release refocuses our deep data expertise into a full-stack trust framework for individuals, organizations, agents, and machines.

## Itheum: The Trust Layer for Autonomous Systems

Since 2018, **Itheum** has pursued one mission: build a world where data is **owned, not extracted**.

We have explored data ownership across healthcare, personal analytics, Data NFTs, and privacy-first AI. Each product and iteration led to one realization: our relationship with data is changing fundamentally.

Today, we stand at a critical point in history. AI increasingly shapes the systems and decisions around us.

For decades, platforms have collected, centralized, and monetized data. Itheum sought an alternative: data used only with consent, with fair compensation for its owners.

Much of that data has already been harvested and reused by centralized organizations. It now helps train systems that influence decisions at unprecedented scale.

We now focus on what comes next. We need a new way to establish trust that keeps people at the center. This is Itheum’s mission.

### Itheum is building a human-centric trust layer

As AI and automation scale, trust is becoming harder to earn and verify. Itheum provides compliance standards and cryptographic technology that help prove what is authentic, ethical, and human.

Itheum’s next major upgrade embraces this evolution. **V4 of the Itheum protocol is codenamed Agenta.**
